Cumbrian Inspiration

As I mentioned I was away last week on a walking holiday in Cumbria, Otis, the Dalmation, Ollie the Collie myself and Mrs Daxio had a great time traipesing all over National park locations, fells and fens.

One particular location, in the National Forestry Commission Park, had some dead interesting derelict buildings which I had to take some pictures of and here they are.

I really loved all the different sizes of stone used in the construction. Probably a crofters cottage. possibly built by the farmer themselves and seemly to me all dry stone, didn't see any mortar, but then it may have been worn away, I don't know.

I just thought the whole build, three in total, were interesting and I will look back on these pictures and use them to help me construct a building in the future.

It was a beautiful day, hot and sunny, and to come across these buildings I was gobsmacked. Look at all the different sizes of slate being used in these walls below, must have taken absolutely ages to build, very impressive.
